The Rainbow Room

The Rainbow Room is our vision for a dedicated sensory-friendly space at Bloom and Grow Children's Center. This room will provide children with a safe, calming environment where they can regulate their emotions, recharge, and return to the classroom feeling ready to learn and play.

Throughout the day, some children need a break from the busy classroom environment. Whether they are feeling overwhelmed by noise, need help managing big emotions, have sensory sensitivities, or simply need a quiet space to reset, the Rainbow Room will provide the support they need in a positive, nurturing environment.

Right now, this room serves many different purposes. It functions as a pantry, a quiet room with a television, a space for children who become overstimulated, and a place for children who do not nap during rest time. While it has been a helpful flexible space, it was never designed to fully meet these important needs.

We're relocating our pantry to our upstairs kitchen area so this room can become a space dedicated entirely to children. Our goal is to transform it into the Rainbow Room, a thoughtfully designed sensory space featuring calming lighting, comfortable seating, sensory equipment, movement opportunities, and hands-on activities that help children regulate their emotions and build coping skills.

The Rainbow Room will support children of all abilities by providing a space where they can calm their bodies, process their feelings, and return to their classrooms ready to succeed. It is an investment not only in children who need extra support, but in every child in our program by creating calmer classrooms, stronger social-emotional skills, and a more inclusive environment where every child can thrive.
